Hepatitis C treatment is now on sale for $10 a pill in Egypt. This would be great news if everyone living with Hep C lived in Egypt.
Our system for developing new medicines leads to vital drugs being too expensive for the people that need them. Half a million people die every year from Hep C with treatment in the UK costing as much as £60,000 for a 12 week treatment.
As it stands, big pharmaceutical companies select very few countries to benefit from discounted prices, while the rest of the world still suffers. The only way we can truly get medicines available at consistently affordable prices is to reform the way we develop new medicines altogether.
This is why we’re calling on the UK government to support essential reforms at a World Health Organisation meeting in March. Find out how you can take action on our Missing Medicines campaign.
