‘Twas the night before World AIDS Day and all through the land,

Cakes were being baked, and parties were being planned,

Red banners were hung outside buildings with care,

In the hopes that an AIDS free world, soon would be there.

As the students lay nestled all snug in their beds,

Thoughts of better treatment access danced in their heads.

Raffle prizes were resting and balloons lay in wait,

As they settled their minds for an important date.

Thirty years ago since the pandemic first rose,

Events did kick off to ensure that it goes,

Lectures and lobbies, open mics and bazaars,

A leapfrog for life, and pool parties in bras…. (Bikini’s didn’t rhyme.)

CaberAIDS, red parties, a jelly bean challenge,

Everyone pushing leaders to reverse the damage,

For the first time in history the end is in sight,

“Happy World AIDS Day to all, and to all a good-night!”
