After months of planning, organising and just a few dramas, the Student Stop AIDS Speaker Tour 2014 is finally on the road. If you haven’t heard already we have three speakers this year; Jay from China, Daisy from Uganda and Nick from Glasgow. They are all fantastic and have the most amazing stories to tell and I’m sure you will all find them just as inspirational as we do!

Jay & Daisy

We picked Daisy and Jay up from the airport last week and set off for Edinburgh to begin our training. It was a fantastic, if rather cold, week and it was so inspiring to hear of all the wonderful things Jay, Daisy and Nick have done to fight for access to medicine and treatment, better education and awareness and to eliminate stigma and discrimination. These range from setting up an illegal drugs trade to creative writing to travelling the world and telling their stories to hundreds of people.

We had a lot of fun introducing Jay and Daisy to some British traditions (they like haggis, they don’t like marmite, Daisy does NOT like winter). It also happened to be Chinese New Year on the 31st, so we helped Jay celebrate with a wonderful Chinese meal and we were all taken to a Ceilidh by the lovely Rachel from Edinburgh Student Stop AIDS society (embarrassing pics to follow).
